Revenge of the 5th

The fourth was definitely not with Celebration fans yesterday.  After @SW_Celebration tweeted for the first time in six months it looked like the rumours were true and an announcement was coming.  But it never did.  The closest we got was this tweet

So what now?

Honestly I have no idea.  Prior to Orlando 2017, which was announced before Europe 2016 took place, all Celebrations going back to Europe 2013 were announced during the previous Celebration.  As much as myself and others try to look for patterns, honestly there aren't any.  All we can really do is speculate based on what happened before and, as today showed, that didn't really work out for us.

What happened?

My best guess is either they wanted to give the focus of the day entirely to the Solo ticket launch or they simply weren't ready to make the announcement.  Last month Jason Ward of Making Star Wars tweeted that things were still moving and details still changing behind the scenes so there's a good chance they just weren't in a place to make the announcement today despite subsequent rumours saying they would.  The rumours could even have been true, at the time, but the pieces just didn't fall into place in time for today so plans changed.

What comes next?

At this point it's simply a case of wait and see.  Maybe they did just want May the 4th to be about Solo and we'll get a Celebration announcement today for Revenge of the 5th.  Or maybe they'll wait until after Solo's released before switching attention to Celebration.  Right now the only thing we can say for sure is that they will make the announcement when they're ready, on their own schedule.

Assuming we don't get a surprise announcement today this certainly seems to add some extra weight to the rumours that Celebration 2019 will be in the Fall.  Disney have already announced D23 Expo for next August and at this point we're less than a year away from a potential April Celebration.  If they weren't holding the announcement for May 4th then we should really have known by now if they were planning a Spring event.

I guess all we can do is wait and hope we get an announcement (or at least some more rumours) soon.  And definitely keep watching @SW_Celebration on Twitter, that should be the first place for the news to drop... whenever it finally does!
