Planning Your Trip - Eating in London

Image
Ok, "Eating in London" isn't entirely accurate - that would take way more than this short page - more like "Eating in and around ExCeL London" since that's more manageable for me to do a guide on and I'm guessing most people won't be getting the tube into the city to get lunch during Celebration days. If you do head into the city after a day at Celebration then you can find Time Out's recent Best Restaurants guide here . ExCeL London If there's one thing ExCeL London has, it's plenty of dining options. There are twenty two food and drink locations in the convention center ranging from Subway to fine dining at The Bridge Restaurant. Judging by their website there will be something for every price range and taste. Let's be honest, even the cheaper options for convention center dining always come with a mark up, but there's a lot to be said for convenience. So if you are planning on eating in the convention center I'd recommend...

Planning Your Trip - Public Transport in London

Image
How could I not choose a Rogue One  image for this one?! Canary Wharf underground station, where parts of Rogue One  were filmed, is just a few stops away from the ExCeL Center and dead easy to visit whilst you're in town for Celebration. ExCeL London is part of London's docklands, just a short tube ride from the city center. Whilst nothing can beat the freedom of driving yourself, or the door to door service that Uber, Lyft, and even regular old taxis can provide, I imagine that most fans will be relying on public transport, especially the underground, during their visit to London. Parking Parking at ExCeL London costs £20 per day in the Orange car park located underneath the venue. Hotel parking (if your hotel offers it) is likely to be in the £15-20 per day price range for hotels by the convention center. Just something to keep in mind if you are hiring or bringing your own car. Airport Transport London City Airport is the closest airport to the convention center, an...

Planning Your Trip - The Convention Bag

Image
So, you're off to Celebration! Like any convention, Star Wars Celebration is a melting pot of fans and creatives from all around the world. There's so much to see and do, and you'll likely be on the go for most of your time there, so a good convention bag with all your essentials is a must! Like with your main packing list , everyone will be different so this guide is to just to help pick out the essentials that most people will need whilst exploring the convention center. The Essentials If you want to take the bare minimum, you won't need a bag at all, just these few essentials to get you through your day. Celebration Badge & Lanyard Your ticket to the galaxy. You'll be wearing this every moment you're at Celebration. Wallet Even if you don't plan on spending anything at Celebration, the chances are you will. Plus it never hurts to have ID on you (which you'll need if collecting badges at Will Call), money for any emergencies, or just grabbing a ...

Planning Your Trip - Packing for Celebration (Main Packing List)

So what should you be taking with you for this Star Wars extravaganza? Everyone's list of convention essentials will be slightly different, we're all individuals after all, so I'm just going to try and make this list as comprehensive as possible. Will I get absolutely everything in here? Of course not! So please let me know if I'm missing one of your essential items and I'll add it to the list. There's two bags that you'll need to be thinking of - your main travel case and your convention bag that you'll be taking with you to Celebration each day. Planning Your Trip - Cosplay at Celebration

Image
So you want to cosplay at Star Wars Celebration. That's awesome! One of the best things at Star Wars Celebration is seeing so many fans in absolutely amazing costumes! So where do you start? First decide what you want to be. Do you want to be a Jedi Knight or a Sith Lord? A hero of the Rebellion or the Empire's greatest enforcer? Do you want to be a character from the movies, the television series, Legends, or maybe a character of your own creation? Heck, why not mash it up a bit! At previous Celebration's I've seen a Jedi Joker, a Captain America Stormtrooper, and a Pikachu inspired Mandalorian. Be whatever you want to be! Set a budget! Cosplay be done on any budget, and you will never find a more welcoming environment than Star Wars Celebration. Seriously, no one cares if your costume is home made or bought from a Halloween store, if your Jedi robe is an old karate gi or if you look like you just walked off a movie set. They will just appreciate that you've do...

Planning Your Trip - Budget, Budget, Budget

Image
There's no way around this, Star Wars Celebration is expensive. So unless you've got a camtono of beskar lying around you're going to need to budget. It's certainly possible to have an absolutely fantastic time at Celebration without spending anything on top of your tickets, hotel, transport, and food costs, but if you're planning on buying any of the exclusive merchandise or getting an autograph or photo with your favorite Star Wars celebrity then the costs can add up real quick. My best advice here is to start saving as soon as you can, even a little a month will soon add up, and the sooner you start saving, the more prepared you'll be. The Essentials There are basically four essentials for Star Wars Celebration. Your Tickets The good news is at this point your Celebration badges are likely bought and paid for, so that's one expense you don't have to worry about anymore. Your Travel Unless you're traveling locally or waiting for a last minute de...

Planning Your Trip - Passports and Visas

Image
Not gonna lie, it's a little strange writing this for people coming here rather than going to the US! It's not the most exciting part of your holiday but unlike Han Solo you can't just blast your way out of a spaceport so this guide is a quick overview of the passport and visa requirements that are essential for international fans travelling to the London for Celebration. Passports Unless you're staying for longer than 6 months, pretty much all you need is a passport. Your passport must be valid for the entire duration of your stay. There are some alternate forms of ID that are also acceptable from some countries ( see here ) but let's not complicate things. Visas Visas are not required if you are coming to the UK from the USA, EU, EEA, Canada, Japan, Australia and New Zealand, and many other countries as long as your stay is less than 6 months. You can check if you need a Visa here. If you do need to get a visa then please be aware that the process could take any...

Planning Your Trip - Getting the Most Out of Star Wars Celebration

Image
Star Wars Celebration is coming back to London! With multiple TV series, Jedi: Survivor , and even more in the pipeline, 2023 promises to be another massive year for Star Wars . And let's not forget the 40th anniversary of my personal favorite Star Wars movie - Return of the Jedi ! It's the perfect time for a Celebration. For the first time outside of America Star Wars  Celebration will offer four incredible days filled with absolutely everything from the latest reveals to cosplay so good it could have come from the movie set, plus more collectibles than you could dream of. This post is the big one. It would be easy to do a Top 5 or Top 10 tips, but that would leave so much out. So page is going to be pretty much everything I can think of that will help you get the most out of Celebration whether you're going for one day or the full four day experience. Make a Plan The golden rule of any convention. Star Wars Celebration is massive, and even if you scored a VIP Jedi Ma...
