Galaxy's Edge

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't as excited about visiting Batuu this year as I am for Celebration.

With Black Spire Outpost officially open, this page is just a simple beginners guide to Galaxy's Edge. A full guide to Disneyland is a website by itself, and for that I'd recommend checking out the Disney Tourist Blog, Mickey Visit, Park Savers, and also the Disneyland forum at Disboards for lots of help and advice for getting the most out of the parks.

Before we hit Batuu, make sure you download both the Disneyland App (if you're planning on purchasing Genie+ or individual Lightning Lane passes) and the Play Disney Parks App for the Star Wars: Datapad which will allow you to interact with the world of Batuu, translating Aurebesh, decrypting secret communications, and even hack into some droids!

The Rides

At 14 acres, Galaxy's Egde is the largest land in the park, with rich and immersive theming, Easter eggs and details that will take fans multiple visits to discover, and even the chance to meet some of our favorite characters from a galaxy far, far away. But this is theme park and that means ride. And the rides here sound truly out of this world!

Rise of the Resistance takes you into the fight between the Resistance and the First Order in the most ambitious ride in Disneyland. Fans have 2 options for joining the fight. Either join the regular queue (no more virtual queue!!) or skip the line by purchasing a Lightning Lane pass (Rise of the Resistance is not available as a standard Genie+ selection). As the star attraction in Galaxy's Edge I'd recommend getting to park for rope drop (opening) and heading straight over or jumping in line at the end of the day (if you are in line before park closing then you will get to ride unless the attraction breaks down).

Millennium Falcon: Smuggler's Run is your chance to fly on the iconic ship that made the Kessel in less than 12 parsecs (if you round down). Take your position, pilot, gunner, or engineer, and help make an important delivery for the infamous Hondo Ohnaka. Again, guests have two options here. Join the regular line or select the Lightning Lane in Genie+. Whilst Smuggler's Run still draws big crowds, its standby queue seems a lot more manageable than Rise of the Resistance so keep that in mind if you're weighing up Genie+.

The Cantina

Let's be honest, every Star Wars fan has wanted to visit the cantina and now you can! Sure, we're not on Tatooine but there's still plenty of smugglers and scoundrels around. And where else can you find DJ R-3X? The former Star Tours  pilot will provide a backdrop of intergalactic hits as you sample exotic drinks from around the outer rim.

Oga's Cantina has limited seating so advanced bookings (which can be made up to 60 days in advance) are highly recommended and can be made via the Disneyland App.

Dining & Snacks

Of course, Oga's Cantina isn't your only option for food and drink in Galaxy's Edge. Batuu is home to a range of options from the iconic blue milk to tasty ronto wraps.

The main restaurant in Black Spire Outpost is Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo, a sit down dining location serving lunch and dinner in an old docking bay hanger. Or perhaps you'd prefer more grab and go Ronto Roasters, home of the ronto wrap and where Rebels fans can even grab some Meiloorun Juice! Both locations are quick service dining so no reservations required. If a snack is in order then Kat Saka's Kettle stand offers a selection of popcorn mixes and every Star Wars fan has to hit the Milk Stand and try the infamous beverage at least once. Mobile orders can be placed at all locations except Kat Saka's Kettle making it even easier to grab a bite whilst maximizing your time on Batuu.

Savi's Workshop & Droid Depot

Outside of the rides these are two of the biggest attractions in Galaxy's Edge. After all, who doesn't want to build their own lightsaber and astromech?!

Hidden away from the prying eyes of the First Order, Savi's Workshop allows you to create your own unique lightsaber hilt and begin your journey into a larger world. Will you fight for the light, or do you feel the pull of the dark? Even if you don't feel like you need a lightsaber (or another lightsaber in my case), everyone I've spoken to says the experience alone is worth doing at least once. The experience is for a builder and guest so, if you don't want lightsaber, maybe see if you can go as a guest with a Celebration buddy who does. The experience is currently priced $219.99 plus tax and includes a carrying case for your lightsaber. The experience has limited availability so it's worth booking in advance if you do want to go, especially with so many Star Wars fans descending on the parks over Celebration.

Around the corner from Savi's is the Droid Depot, where you can bring your own astromech droid to life! Chose from an R or BB-series, pick your parts, maybe add an additional personality chip, and away you go! Like with Savi's, the Droid Depot experience is for one builder and one guest, and pre-booking is recommended. The current price is $99.99 plus tax. Once your droid is ready you can purchase additional accessories from Droid Depot. If you don't fancy building your own, Droid Depot also offers a range of pre-made and premium droids as well.

In-Universe Merchandise

One thing you won't find much of in Black Spire Outpost is branded merchandise. Everything sold here is designed to look "in universe" so fans can fully immerse themselves in the Star Wars experience.

Dok-Ondar's Den of Antiquities is bound to be a treat for any fan. The infamous proprietor's shop is where you can pick up legendary lightsabers from throughout the saga, holocrons, busts of Jedi Masters and Sith Lords, artwork, kyber crystals, and so much more. Make sure you take the time to greet Doc himself, and track down as many Easter eggs as you can, hidden throughout the store. Black Spire Outfitters is another essential visit, offering Jedi robes and Rey's Resistance outfit alongside other outfits that will make you feel at home in a galaxy far, far away.

Of course, the Resistance and the First Order are both well represented, with Resistance Supply and First Order Cargo offering helmets, flight suits, uniforms, and a full range of goodies that you can use to pledge your allegiance to either side! The Creature Stall allows you to bring home a new "pet" from your trip to Batuu. From monkey-lizards to porgs you can find them all here (and the Loth-cat sleeping in the store looks amazing!). And if you want something for the younglings, or fancy picking up a game of sabacc, make sure you head to the Toydarian Toymaker. Everything here is designed to look homemade, crafted by the artisans of Black Spire Outpost, and you'll even find things that match some of the toys and games glimpsed on screen.

Special Events - Hyperspace Mountain

The popular Space Mountain overlay returns! Rocket through an epic battle between the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire, accompanied by John Williams' iconic score. You don't want to miss this!

If you want a more detailed guide to Galaxy's Edge then check out this one by the Undercover Tourist. It's a little dated (virtual queues are no more and Genie+ has been introduced since it was written) but it's a good guide to give you some more detail to help plan your visit.

May the Spires keep you everyone!
