Star Wars Celebration Returns to Japan in 2025!

One week ago today, at the Closing Ceremony of Star Wars Celebration Europe, we learnt that Celebration was heading back to Japan!

In exactly two years from today, Star Wars Celebration Japan will take place at the Makuhari Messe convention center in Chiba.

I still need to do a full look back at Celebration Europe, and a I will, but let's just quickly look to the future.

Taking place from 18-20 April, 2025, Celebration Japan marks a return to the 3 day events that have been the standard for Celebrations taking place outside of America. The venue itself is one of the largest convention centers in Japan, located just outside of Tokyo and within half an hour of  the Tokyo Disney Resort via public transport.

Makuhari Messe features an arena with a capacity of up to 9,000 people (depending on configuration) which makes it comparable to the arenas of Chicago and Anaheim and more than double the capacity of the Celebration Stage at ExCeL earlier this month.

In fact the entire layout of the convention center looks more comparable to Anaheim, with the larger concourse and main exhibit halls all on one side. Hopefully this will help avoid the bottle necking that occurred at ExCeL on the concourse between the show halls.

So, big venue, massive arena, near to Disney. It's a pretty fantastic place for a Celebration.

There's no clue yet when tickets will go on sale. Celebrations tend to go on sale about a year in advance so May 2024 would be my guess. So even if, like me, you'e not sure you can make this one, there's plenty of time to plan and work out your budget before you have to commit to going. With the return of theatrical Star Wars on the horizon, and Celebration's first time in Japan since 2008, I think this one could be very special.
